Copper & Fibre Cable

Coaxial cable consists of a centre wire surrounded by insulation, then a grounded shield of braided wire. The shield minimises electrical and radio frequency interference. It is the primary type of cabling used by the cable television industry. It is also used for computer networks. It is more expensive than standard telephone wire but can carry more data and is less susceptible to interference

Optical fibre is known for its reliability and immunity to sources of interference such as EFI and RFI. It has an extremely large bandwid th ranging from 600 MHz to 1000 MHz, and therefore is suited to multimedia applications. Optical fibre cables do not conduct electricity or support ground loops, so will be unaffected by lightning strikes.
