Fibre Optic Box The Purpose of a launch box is to act as the interface between an OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) and the system under test. It will allow the OTDR to see the first connector within the system, which would otherwise be in the OTDR's launch dead Zone.

Utilisation of a launch box will also help to reduce wear and tear on an OTDR's interface connector, as most of the couplings are made directly to the launch box rather than the OTDR itself.
