MPO / MTP high-density fibre cabling
MPO (Multi-fibre Push On) connectors — and the branded MTP variant — carry 12 or 24 fibres in a single ferrule, making them the backbone of high-density data centre and structured fibre cabling. One MPO connection replaces up to 24 individual fibre leads, which is why MPO trunks, cassettes and harnesses are used for 40G and 100G links and for rapid, pre-terminated backbone deployment. MPO is part of our wider fibre optic cabling range.
DTT supplies MPO/MTP trunk cables, breakout (fan-out) harnesses and cassettes across the common fibre grades — OM3 and OM4 multimode and OS2 singlemode — in the lengths and polarity configurations your installation needs.
Choosing the right MPO assembly
- Fibre count — 12-fibre is standard for most trunks; 24-fibre doubles density where rack space is tight.
- Fibre grade — OM3 and OM4 for multimode 40/100G; OS2 singlemode for longer reach.
- Polarity — Method A, B or C trunks and matching cassettes keep transmit and receive correctly mapped end to end.
- Connector gender — male (pinned) and female (unpinned) MPO, chosen so mated pairs interlock correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an MPO connector?+
MPO (Multi-fibre Push On) is a high-density fibre connector that carries 12 or 24 fibres in a single ferrule. One MPO connection replaces up to 24 individual fibre leads, which makes it the standard for data centre backbones and 40G/100G links.
What is the difference between MPO and MTP?+
MTP is a branded, higher-specification version of the MPO connector, engineered for improved mechanical and optical performance. The two are intermateable — an MTP connector will mate with a standard MPO.
How many fibres does an MPO connector carry?+
A standard MPO carries 12 fibres; a high-density 24-fibre version is used where rack space is tight. We supply both, in trunk, breakout and cassette forms.
What is MPO polarity (Method A, B or C)?+
Polarity ensures the transmit fibre at one end maps to the receive fibre at the other. The TIA defines three schemes — Method A, B and C — using matched trunks and cassettes. Tell us your method and we will supply the correct components.
Which fibre grade should I choose — OM3, OM4 or OS2?+
Use OM3 or OM4 laser-optimised multimode for 40G and 100G links over data centre distances, or OS2 singlemode for longer reach and higher bandwidth. If you are unsure, our fibre team will match the assembly to your hardware.
Can you supply custom MPO trunk lengths?+
Yes — MPO/MTP trunks, harnesses and cassettes are made to order. Call 01488 685 400 or request a quote. In-stock lines dispatch the same working day, with free standard delivery on Mainland UK orders over £250.
