The fibre range

Multimode & singlemode grades

Choose the fibre grade to match distance and equipment: OM1 (62.5/125) and OM2 (50/125) for legacy and short multimode links; OM3 and OM4 (50/125) laser-optimised fibre for 10G, 40G and 100G in data centres; and OS2 9/125 singlemode for long-distance, high-bandwidth runs. Patch leads are available in a range of colours and in lengths from 1 to 30 metres.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between singlemode and multimode fibre?+

Singlemode (OS1/OS2) has a small 9-micron core for long-distance, high-bandwidth links, typically with laser sources. Multimode (OM1–OM4) has a larger 50 or 62.5-micron core for shorter runs and is more cost-effective over data centre and campus distances.

What do OM1, OM2, OM3 and OM4 mean?+

They are multimode fibre grades. OM1 (62.5/125) and OM2 (50/125) are legacy/short-reach; OM3 and OM4 (50/125) are laser-optimised for 10G, 40G and 100G over longer data centre distances.

What fibre core count do I need — 4, 8, 12, 16 or 24 core?+

Core count is the number of individual fibres in the cable. As a rule of thumb, 4 to 8 core suits small links and a handful of connections, 12 to 16 core covers most building and floor backbones, and 24 core gives headroom for larger backbones or future expansion. Our pre-terminated fibre is factory-assembled and tested in 4, 8, 12, 16 and 24 core — call 01488 685 400 if you would like help sizing a backbone.

What is pre-terminated fibre?+

Pre-terminated fibre is factory-assembled and tested with connectors already fitted, supplied in 4 to 24 core. It lets you deploy a backbone quickly without on-site splicing or termination.

Which fibre connector types do you supply?+

We supply ST, SC, LC, E2000, MU and MTRJ connectors and couplers, plus MPO/MTP for high-density links — available in a wide range of patch lead combinations.

Can you make custom fibre patch leads?+

Yes — fibre patch leads and pigtails are made to order in a range of colours and in lengths from 1 to 30 metres, in the connector combination you need. Call 01488 685 400 or request a quote. In-stock lines dispatch the same working day, with free standard delivery on Mainland UK orders over £250.
